Florence in the Summer

I'm finally to the last post on our Italian holiday: Florence! This gorgeous place is much more relaxed than Rome, but still filled with so much history, culture and of course, good food. Jim and I wanted to relax but also sight-see since Jim hadn’t been before...it ended up being a perfect combo of both made all the much better with 80 degree weather. And our hotel, Porta Faenza, was small but close to everything.

If you’re heading to Florence any time soon, here are my recommendations for the must-dos: Il Duomo (the famous cathedral in the centre of town), Piazzale Michelangelo (a square looking over the city where you can catch some the square on a hill where you can see the spanning views of the entire city, grab a gelato and just soak it all in...check out the pretty gardens on your way up the hill), Piazza della Signoria (the main square in Florence), Baldovino (amazing spot for creative, delicious Italian fare), Uffizzi Gallery (where you can see all the famous Renaissance art from Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo...buy tickets in advance though), Ponte Vecchio (a stone’s throw from the Uffizzi Gallery, it’s a bridge filled with jewellery stores and lookout points for photos), shopping around Piazza San Lorenzo and the side streets off of Piazza della Signoria. Another bit of advice would be to eat all the pizza, pasta and gelato you can!
